I'm still tryna avoid getting COVID-19.
I started a website a few (??) years ago to help me keep track of some of the tools people were using to mitigate potential infections. I named it "We Have the Tools" -- a sarcastic throwback, of course, to the CDC and the Biden administration's claims (as they took away the most important tools we had: the public health infrastructure that provided free testing and treatment, the ability to stay home and isolate when infected, and crucial social welfare benefits like increased access to medicaid and housing.)
The website has a "toolbox" with info like where to buy masks and what studies exist on the nasal sprays currently available, and how to make a plan for your potential future COVID infection (and more obv). The "printables" page includes a "COVID+ Workbook" I made, my Fan-Club 1pg Zine for safe(r) shows, and a bunch of zines I've found or that were sent to me - all free to download and print.
There's also a very comprehensive "links" page. (Which is the main reason I wanted to link to this new page from my bookmarks.) I listed some blogs, podcasts, and books I recommend, as well as some other resource-full sites like mine. There are some amazing projects out there compiling more information than I ever could -- on COVID itself, how to talk about it with loved ones, and what mutual aid groups have formed to distribute masks, tests, and lend out air purifiers in their communities.
Which brings me to my other COVID-related project: FAN-CLUB.
FAN-CLUB is a lending library and zine that aims to make COVID mitigations accessible and normal at shows and other events.
It was originally based out of a now-defunct community space I was involved with, where I also helped host masked/covid-safe(r) all ages benefit shows. RIP. The loss of the DC has been really difficult for me, as live music and my punk/diy community have been so central to my life since I was a young teen. When we reopened the space in 2022 and started having shows again, my collective and I committed to doing what we could to keep everyone safe(r). I'm really proud of the guidelines we came up with and everything we learned over two years about how to best ventilate and purify the air in the space. I've taken what I learned there (and during my time as a contact tracer), and the air purifiers I built for us, to help form FAN-CLUB.
I am also hosting skillshares for anyone who wants to learn how to make their shows safe(r). My most recent one was more broad for the Boston Anarchist Bookfair -- I tried to cover basically ANY kind of event. I'm currently working on an 'intro to far-UVC' workshop. Here's a form you can fill out to find out about/sign up for the next skillshare I'll be hosting (they're usually remote).
I hope you enjoyed learning about these projects I've been working on and that they might be helpful for you. Remember, it's never too late to start wearing a mask again. We keep us safe.
